Forty-one seconds.
One drawing. One light. Scroll, or let it roll.
A number crosses a line.
3.4 mmol/L. Below 3.9 it is called low. Nobody is awake to see it.
A sensor the size of a coin says so.
Once a minute, over Bluetooth, to whatever is listening.
The air is full.
Everything in it thinks it is important.
The phone was told to be quiet.
Silent switch on. Focus on. Most alerts stop here.
It arrives anyway.
Delivered. Displayed. The only light in the room.
Acknowledged. Forty-one seconds from a number to a person.
Someone has to answer for that gap. We do.
It was one drawing all along.
960 millimetres, six stations, one line for the light to travel.
One take, one actor.
Every Bolted rule, pushed until it became a film. The LED is the only emitter, so the light is the only actor. Type is a spec sheet, so the set is a drawing. Scroll-linked means scrubbed, so the camera is your hand. It runs forty-one seconds because that is how long the alert on the Reach page takes to be acknowledged.
| The set | One drawing, 960 mm long. A chart, a sensor, the air, a handset, a bedroom, the alert. Redrawn in millimetres at your screen's resolution every frame the camera moves, so a hairline stays a hairline at any zoom. |
|---|---|
| The actor | One light. It rides the glucose curve down, leaves the sensor, crosses a full band, enters a silenced phone, and ends as the LED on the alert. The beams are computed from the lines it passes. |
| The camera | A rectangle of the drawing that must fit the screen. Close on the coin-sized sensor, wide on the room, and out at the end until the whole strip is a strip. |
| The controls | Roll plays the film in exactly forty-one seconds; touch the scroll and you have the camera back. The chapter bar jumps, and so do 1 to 7 and the arrow keys. Space rolls. N opens the director's notes: thirds, frame corners, and the numbers behind the shot. |
| Without WebGPU | The same drawing, dim, with a plain dot for the light. The story still tells. |
| No Blender | Considered and left out. A modelled room would have been the second style in the film. The drawing is the style. |
